Bethel Park’s Lazenga chooses Pitt

Pitt has landed another WPIAL football recruit.

Bethel Park senior Adam Lazenga quietly committed to the Panthers a couple weeks ago, Lazenga said Thursday at the PIAA individual wrestling championship in Hershey. Lazenga, who starred at linebacker for Bethel Park, is also an outstanding wrestler in the 285-pound division. He will join Pitt as a preferred walk-on.

Pitt coaches had come to recruit a couple juniors on Bethel Park’s football team. While there were there, they asked Lazenga to also come to Pitt. They didn’t have a full scholarship for him, but Lazenga earned academic scholarships as an excellent student.

“I’ve dreamed of playing down there since I was little,” said Lazenga, who owns Pitt season tickets. “Even if I don’t get to play for three or four years, just coming out on that field four years from now will make it all worth it.”

Lazenga has an interesting matchup with undefeated Evan Craig of Abington Heights in today’s PIAA second round:
