South Fayette wins first WPIAL football title since 1964

What a year it has been for South Fayette.

The Lions’ football team has won its first WPIAL football title since 1964, defeating Aliquippa, 19-6, in the Class AA championship game at Heinz Field. Also, within the past 12 months, South Fayette won state titles in basketball and wrestling.

South Fayette waited 46 years for this.
The Lions claimed their first WPIAL title since 1964 with a 19-6 victory over Aliquippa in the Class AA championship game at Heinz Field. Christian Brumbaugh threw two touchdown passes and Trevor Fiorentini ran for another, helping the unbeaten Lions (13-0) topple the previously unbeaten Quips (12-1). The was the second straight season that Aliquippa has been WPIAL runner-up.
Brumbaugh completed 12 of 23 passes for 147 yards and threw touchdown passes to Tyler Challingsworth (38 yards) and Zach Challingsworth (5 yards). Brumbaugh now has 75 career touchdown passes, leaving him one short of former Sto-Rox star Adam DiMichele who graduated in 2004 with 76.
