Woodland Hills’ Lafayette Pitts, a highly recruited cornerback, won’t be playing for Pitt after all, if a report from New Jersey is true. A website that covers Rutgers recruiting, ScarletReport.com, said Monday night that Pitts had made a verbal commitment to the Scarlet Knights.

Pitts had previously committed to Pitt, but began reconsidering after the forced resignation of coach Dave Wannstedt. The 6-foot, 195-pound senior visited Rutgers this weekend.

Possibly swaying his decision were former Wannstedt assistants Jeff Hafley and Frank Cignetti, who have joined Greg Schiano’s coaching staff at Rutgers. Hafley was the defensive secondary coach for Pitt, and had helped recruit Pitts to the Panthers.
