Doctors have diagnosed Gateway’s Barnett Harris with a bruised spinal cord, said his basketball coach, Mitch Adams. Harris fell awkwardly during Wednesday night’s playoff game.

Shortly after midnight, Adams said Harris was moving his hands and toes, but still could not move his arms or legs. However, doctors were optimistic that Harris could recover fully. Harris was being treated at UPMC Presbyterian.

“(The movement) is going to come back, they feel,” Adams said.

Harris, a 6-foot-10 junior, laid motionless under the basket for more than 20 minutes before paramedics removed him from North Allegheny’s gym on a stretcher.

Following a made shot by teammate D.J. Boyce, Harris grabbed the rim before falling to the floor with 4:11 left in the fourth quarter. Harris hit is head and back on the hardwood floor.
