West Shamokin searching for solutions again

Armstrong School District officials are discussing the possibility of ending West Shamokin football’s co-op arrangement with Elderton in order to give the Wolves, owners of a WPIAL record 41-game losing streak, a chance to drop to Class A for the 2012-2014 classification cycle.

School board directors addressed the co-op during a meeting last Monday night. They will hear public comment on the issue during a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at West Shamokin High School.

The co-op, which adds Elderton’s male enrollment figures to West Shamokin’s, has kept West Shamokin football in Class AA since the program joined the WPIAL in 2004.

In seven-plus seasons, West Shamokin has won just four games against WPIAL opponents. Only one win came against Class AA competition — a 30-12 victory over Northgate in 2007.
