Some of the PIHL’s top players will represent Team Pittsburgh next week in the America’s Showcase high school hockey tournament at Robert Morris’ Island Sports Complex on Neville Island.
In pool play, Team Pittsburgh is scheduled to play New York on Wednesday at 5 p.m., New England on Thursday at 3 p.m. and Midwest on Friday at 3 p.m. The championship game will be played April 14.
The Team Pittsburgh roster includes:
Goalies: senior Michael Ambrose (Upper St. Clair), junior Brian Baker (Peters Township);
Forwards: senior Stefan Horgas (State College), senior Macky Power (Hollidaysburg), junior Tyler Larwood (The Kiski School), senior Cody Black (North Allegheny), junior Chris Siak (Bethel Park), senior Josh Singley (Latrobe), senior Tyler Speis (Serra Catholic), junior Cullen McMahon (Chartiers Valley), junior Evan Opeka (Peters Township), junior Cole Hepler (Freeport), senior Trevor Recktenwald (Peters Township), senior Tanner Gilliland (Butler);
Defensemen: junior Kyle Cunningham (Pine-Richland), senior Trevor Handlovitch (Moon), senior Michael Klena (Shaler), senior Harry Kramer (North Allegheny), junior Brendon Zack (Freeport), junior Noah Moody (Indiana).
The team will be coached by Lou Biancaniello and assistants Brian Boehm and Mike Guentner.
Four local girls players also will compete in the showcase, representing Team Mid-American: junior goalie Samantha Smith (Shady Side Academy), junior defenseman Eleni Rapp (North Hills), junior forward Olivia Stokes (Shady Side Academy) and senior defenseman Melissa Bodine (home schooled, Sewickley).
