For the 17th season, Root Sports announced it will broadcast WPIAL high school football games Thursday nights as part McDonald’s High School Football sponsored by Trib Total Media.
The network plans to broadcast seven regular season games, as well as three Friday night playoff games and the four WPIAL championship games at Heinz Field on Nov. 23.
The schedule includes Seneca Valley at Pine-Richland (Sept. 5), Neshannock at Sto-Rox (Sept. 12), Washington at Jeannette (Sept. 26), West Mifflin at Elizabeth Forward (Oct. 3), Blackhawk at Montour (Oct. 10), Hampton at Franklin Regional (Oct. 17) and McKeesport at Gateway (Oct. 24). All regular-season broadcasts start at 7 p.m., with the exception of the Sept. 12, Oct. 3 and Oct. 17 game, which will be shown on tape delay because of Pirates or Penguins broadcasts.
“With this season’s weekly matchups of rival schools, Root Sports is excited to showcase the competitiveness of the student-athletes and the enthusiasm and commitment of each school’s fan base,” said Shawn McClintock, senior vice president and general manager of Root Sports.
“Western Pennsylvania is the home to one of the greatest total high school football experiences in the country, and Root Sports is excited to bring that experience to viewers again this fall.”
Root Sports personality Rob King and 12-year NFL veteran Craig Wolfley will return as the voices of McDonald’s High School Football.
