Previewing the Red, White and Blue Invitational


Saturday’s Red, White & Blue Invitational cross country race at Schenley Park will include plenty of familiar faces, most notably returning champions Brent Kennedy of Kiski Area and Shaler’s Brianna Schwartz.
Kennedy, a senior, won the boys race in 15 minutes, 27 seconds, finishing ahead of Fox Chapel senior Ethan Martin (15:35).
Also back for the boys is Ryan McGuire, a Trinity Christian senior who was seventh last fall in 16:03.
North Allegheny won the boys team title with 76 points. Mt. Lebanon was second with 132, followed by Grove City at 195.
Schwartz finished the race in 18:07 as a junior, ahead of second-place Mary Malone (18:20), a senior from North Hills.
Mt. Lebanon senior Jillian Hunsberger (fourth, 18:30) and Hampton senior Gina Alm (fifth, 18:40) will again compete for the title.
Rounding out the top 10 from last year are Villa Maria sophomore Bernadette Prichard, who was seventh in 18:51; West Allegheny junior Alexis O’Shea, who was eighth in 18:55; and Mt. Lebanon’s Audrey Gordon, who placed 10th with a time of 19:04.
Morgantown was the top girls team with 79 points, followed by Mt. Lebanon (88) and Hampton (232).
This is the 10th year for the race.
