Spring ball responses

With Pitt football spring practice opening Saturday and the Pitt basketball team in the NCAA Tournament, I posed the following question: If you could take one Pitt basketball player for the football team, who would it be, what position would he play and why?

Here are some reader responses:

Bud: “Aaron Gray. I would play him at tight end because he is big and has good hands.”

Rich K. #1: “Keith Benjamin at safety or cornerback. He has speed and unbelievable hops. Plus, the defensive backfield is Pitt’s weakest position.”

Josh: “Keith Benjamin. I think he’d make a good wide receiver or maybe even quarterback.”

Doug: “Tyrell Biggs. He can really move and I think he is the best athlete on the team. I think he would be a great defensive end or tight end.”

JMan: “Antonio Graves looks like a safety to me. He’s tall, quick, and the dude looks as if he likes the weight room.”

Rich K. #2: “I would have to say Sam Young as a defensive end. Long, aggressive and seems to like the contact (steps in and takes the necessary charge).”

Personally, I was surprised nobody mentioned point guard Levance Fields as a free safety or small forward Mike Cook as a receiving tight end. My choice would be Benjamin. He has the right combination of size, speed and strength to be a safety, and has shown a willingness to lay his body on the line. Don’t know if he ever played football, though. And he’d have to battle another Mt. Vernon (NY) product, Lowell Robinson, for playing time.
