Pitt received a verbal commitment Sunday from Johnstown Bishop McCort tight end Mike Cruz.
The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Cruz chose the Panthers over scholarship offers from Clemson, Nebraska, Virginia and West Virginia, among others.
“Pitt’s been my dream school,” Cruz said. “It’s always been my favorite school. My head football coach told me to wait a little longer, but I couldn’t wait anymore. I wanted to make it official and let everyone know Pitt was it for me.”
Cruz is the second player from the Class of 2008 to pick Pitt, joining Johnstown receiver/cornerback Antwuan Reed, who committed last fall. Another Bishop McCort player, defensive tackle Wayne Jones, will enroll in January.
