Pitt Recruit In Cruz Control

Johnstown Bishop McCort tight end Mike Cruz has reneged on the verbal commitment he gave to Pitt earlier this month and will reopen his recruitment.

“Unfortunately, I did,” Cruz said. “I think I rushed my decision.”

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Cruz was the second player from the Class of 2008 to pick the Panthers. Verbal commitments are non-binding until prospects sign a binding national letter of intent in February.

Cruz chose Pitt over scholarship offers from Akron, Clemson, Kent State, Nebraska, Virginia and West Virginia. He recently took an unofficial trip to WVU’s Morgantown campus and said Florida State has since offered a scholarship and Notre Dame also appears interested.
