In typical fashion, the NCAA has overreacted to a concern in college sports by not correcting it but banishing it.
The NCAA Board of Directors voted Thursday to ban college coaches from text messaging prospective recruits. The rule goes into effect on Aug. 1.
Those doing the text-messaging give this a thumbs-down. College recruiting has gone high-tech, for convenience sake, and I’ve written stories showing how the Electronic Age of Recruiting has made coaches more efficient.
IMO – In My Opinion, to use text short-hand – a much greater problem is the access and accountability of Web sites such as myspace.com and facebook.com.
