Meza-Clay Invasion

May 3rd, 2007

For a boxer who has become accustomed to entering the ring escorted by Steelers, it’s about time Rankin’s Monty Meza-Clay is getting a chance to fight at Heinz Field.

As a tune-up for his May 11 bout against Carlos Contreras, the IBA super featherweight champion will have a public workout at 1 p.m. Friday at Heinz Field’s Great Hall.

Meza-Clay is fighting for only the fourth time in 24 professional bouts outside of Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort, where he escaped the shadow of Aliquippa lightweight Verquan Kimbrough.

Clay’s only defeat came against Edner Cherry in a title fight, when he the referee stopped the contest in the 11th round.
