Just when you thought boxing had become irrelevant…
You have to applaud Monty Meza-Clay for his willingness to conduct public workouts to introduce himself to Pittsburgh fight fans.
Meza-Clay, of Rankin, is as charismatic as he is entertaining, showing an eagerness to embrace potential fight fans and followers. It’s a necessary evil, considering the majority of his fights have been at Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort in Chester, W.Va., and he holds a relatively meaningless title, the International Boxing Association super featherweight belt.
But Paul Spadafora’s first title was the International Boxing Council lightweight title, and his early bouts were staged at Monzo’s Palace Inn in Monroeville, the Avalon Hotel in Erie and Mountaineer.
It wasn’t until Spadafora won the International Boxing Federation belt that he started fighting in bigger and better venues. Now, Heinz Field would be an upgrade for Spaddy.
