Just when you thought boxing had become irrelevant…

Not that Paul Spadafora needed a wake-up call – especially after spending 13 months in jail for shooting his girlfriend – but the death of Diego Corrales should serve as a reminder of how precious life can be in the fast lane.

Where Sports Illustrated once compared Spadafora to a modern-day Rocky Balboa because he was the lone white, American-born champion in boxing, Spadafora once seemed more destined to become the next Johnny Tapia.

If nothing else, Spadafora should notice that Corrales was 29 at the time of his death – the same age Spadafora was when his career came to a crossroads.
