Going 10 Rounds — Round Two

Just when you thought boxing had become irrelevant…

Sadly, Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s rise to prominence coincided with Paul Spadafora’s fall from fortune. Spadafora once whipped Mayweather in a sparring session in Las Vegas, and they were supposed to fight on several occasions.

When Spadafora was International Boxing Federation lightweight champion, he wanted nothing more than to fight Mayweather. Those plans, however, were derailed first by a controversial decision, then by disagreements over money and the venue.

Spadafora had his chances to fight Mayweather but his handlers wanted to do so on their own terms – or, at least, on neutral turf – which was a very costly mistake.
