Clermond charges withdrawn

July 30th, 2007

A charge of marijuana possession against Pitt football player Joe Clermond was withdrawn today in Pittsburgh Municipal Court, a court clerk said.

Clermond, 22, of Tampa, Fla., was arrested July 21 by officers from the city’s Street Response Unit at the WAMO Summer Jam at Mellon Arena.

Clermond was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana after, according to court documents, officers smelled smoke coming from a vehicle in the parking lot. Clermond denied smoking marijuana, but police spotted what appeared to be a half-smoke blunt.

Clermond, a fifth-year senior, was named second-team All-Big East last season after leading the conference in tackles for loss (16.5) and the Panthers with 5 1/2 sacks.
