    Bostick returns to Pitt camp

    August 14th, 2007

After missing the first seven days of practice, highly touted freshman quarterback Pat Bostick returned to Pitt’s football training camp today. Bostick arrived at Pitt’s Duratz Athletic Complex on the South Side at about 12:30 p.m. The two-time all-state selection from Manheim Township High School left camp Aug. 6 and returned home to Lancaster to [...]

With their first scrimmage looming this afternoon, the Panthers had a light, shoulder pads-and-shorts practice in perhaps the best weather of camp yet. Neither right guard Joe Thomas nor defensive ends Chris McKillop and Greg Romeus practiced, so there were some shake-ups with the first-team offense and defense. Redshirt junior Dom Williams took Thomas’ place [...]

After a week of eluding questions about LeSean McCoy, Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt finally gave in and gushed about the precocious freshman tailback. Despite wearing No. 9 for a while before changing to his No. 25 jersey, “Shady” proved to be the real McCoy. “I’ve been somewhat hesitant to say his name but after today’s [...]

    Bostick to return Tuesday

    August 13th, 2007

Prized freshman quarterback Pat Bostick, who returned home to Lancaster on the eve of Pitt training camp for “personal issues,” will return Tuesday after missing seven days of practice. “We’re driving out tomorrow morning, as a matter of fact,” said Bostick’s father, Pat Sr. “Speaking for Pat, he’s just really excited to get back with [...]

Dave Wannstedt has an appreciation for blue-collar football players – after all, he was one – and the Pitt coach holds junior quarterback Bill Stull in that regard. Stull practiced for the second time Sunday after a cut to the thumb on his right hand required five stitches Friday. Stull looked sharper in the second [...]

The bad news is that senior receiver Derek Kinder is out for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee, an injury suffered in Saturday’s practice. The good news is that Kinder is a candidate for a redshirt this fall and will be eligible to return in 2008. The absence of No. 81 [...]

    Kinder out with torn ACL

    August 12th, 2007

Pitt senior receiver Derek Kinder, a first-team All-Big East selection last season, was lost for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt said Sunday morning. “A very unfortunate thing for Derek,” Wannstedt said. “He’s worked so hard to put himself in position to have a great [...]

Pitt practiced in full pads for the first time during training camp, which resulted in a session that delighted and disgusted Panthers coach Dave Wannstedt. First and foremost, Wannstedt had to be concerned when senior receiver Derek Kinder, a first-team All-Big East selection, injured his knee during 11-on-11 drills. Wannstedt called it a “non-contact injury” [...]

Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt appeared relieved that the Panthers were ending split-squad practices in only shoulder pads and looked forward to going live on Saturday. For that reason, Friday’s afternoon session had a more relaxed atmosphere and produced a smooth practice that saw quarterback Kevan Smith perform at his best this week and an interesting [...]

For the first during Pitt’s training camp, Panthers coach Dave Wannstedt appeared to be disgusted with split-squad practices and the lack of full contact. “I will be glad when we put the full pads on, and I will be glad when we get the entire team together,” Wannstedt said. “We’ve about reached the breaking point [...]
