First Quarter: Pitt 7, Eastern Michigan 3

Eastern Michigan took advantage of a personal-foul penalty against cornerback Kennard Cox to score on a 27-yard field goal by Sean Dutcher for a 3-0 lead.

Pitt answered when quarterback Bill Stull connected on a 41-yard pass to Marcel Pestano and a 19-yard pass to Darrell Strong to set up Shane Brooks’ 1-yard scoring run for a 7-3 advantage.

The Panthers were in Eastern Michigan territory when the quarter ended.
