Pitt junior quarterback Bill Stull injured the thumb on his right (throwing) hand and left the season opener against Eastern Michigan in the third quarter.

Stull was taken off the field to have X-rays on the thumb, which required five stitches to close a gash during the first week of training camp. Stull’s return is questionable.

Redshirt freshman Kevan Smith replaced Stull, who had completed 14 of 20 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown, as the Panthers led, 21-3.
