Brytus earns Big East honors


Pitt punter Dave Brytus is the Big East Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

Brytus averaged 45.4 yards per punt, with a long of 56 yards and one inside the 20-yard line in a 27-3 victory over Eastern Michigan Saturday at Heinz Field.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound junior, a West Allegheny High School graduate, was a Ray Guy Award semifinalist at Purdue in 2005 before transferring to Pitt last year.

Rutgers receiver Tiquan Underwood, who had 10 receptions for 248 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-3 victory over Buffalo, won offensive honors. Cincinnati cornerback Mike Mickens, who had two interceptions and six tackles in a 59-3 victory over Southeast Missouri State, won defensive honors.
