Pitt defensive end Joe Clermond was named Big East Defensive Player of the Week for his play at West Virginia in the 100th Backyard Brawl.
Clermond, a fifth-year senior, recorded eight tackles, a sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and forced a fumble in Pitt’s 13-9 victory over the No. 2 Mountaineers in Morgantown.
Pitt held West Virginia to season lows of 104 rushing yards and 183 total yards, well below their average of 474.8.
