While awaiting word from Aliquippa All-America receiver Jonathan Baldwin to announce his college choice, we got this recruiting nugget from Trib high school reporter Paul Schofield:
Pitt has received a verbal commitment from Norwin receiver Mike Shanahan, who chose the Panthers over West Virginia and Stanford.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Shanahan, who had 35 receptions for 709 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, made an official visit to Pitt this past weekend.
“I want to be part of the turnaround at Pitt,” Shanahan said. “When I visited Pitt, everything just felt right.”
Pitt’s passing game was its Achilles’ heel this season, and the Panthers have quickly addressed it with five recruits in the past week. Dave Wannstedt landed a multi-purpose threat in Gateway’s Cameron Saddler, a pro-style QB in Dublin (Ohio) Coffman’s Zack Stoudt, a dual-threat QB in Fort Scott (Kan.) CC’s Greg Cross and, if Baldwin commits as expected, a pair of 6-5 targets at receiver.
