Behind the timely shooting of Ronald Ramon and Keith Benjamin and a strong inside effort, No. 15 Pitt upset No. 5 Georgetown, 69-60, in a Big East Conference game before a sellout crowd at Petersen Events Center.
Benjamin and Ramon scored 18 points apiece, combining to make 11 of 19 shots from the field, including six 3-pointers. Benjamin was 6 of 8 on free throws, while Ramon was 4 of 6 on 3-pointers.
Pitt (15-2, 3-1) also had a 37-33 rebounding edge, as freshman center DeJuan Blair added 15 points and nine rebounds in outplaying Georgetown 7-foot-2 senior center Roy Hibbert, who had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
It was the first conference loss for defending Big East champion Georgetown (13-2, 2-1), which was led by Jonathan Wallace’s 14 points.
