Pitt sophomore point guard Jania Sims, who started 13 games for the nationally ranked women’s basketball team, is academically ineligible and will miss the remainder of the season.
Sims averaged 9.6 points and 3.4 assists this season. Sims did not play in Pitt’s past two games, Big East Conference victories over Syracuse and Cincinnati.
Senior Mallorie Winn started in Sims’ place. The Panthers (13-3, 3-0), ranked No. 22 by the Associated Press and No. 24 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches’ poll, play host to Providence at 2 p.m. Saturday at Petersen Events Center.
