Pitt releases ’08 football non-conference schedule

Pitt has released its 2008 non-conference football schedule, which includes visits by Bowling Green, Buffalo and Iowa and trips to Navy and Notre Dame.

Pitt opens with Bowling Green Aug. 30 at Heinz Field, followed by Buffalo Sept. 6. Pitt will play Iowa for the first time in 56 years when the Hawkeyes visit Sept. 20. Pitt plays at Navy Oct. 18 and at Notre Dame Nov. 1.

The Big East Conference schedule will be released at a later date, but Pitt will play host to West Virginia, Louisville and Rutgers, with away games at Cincinnati, Connecticut, Syracuse and South Florida.

The Buffalo game is the first in a four-year series in a deal completed by former Pitt athletic director Jeff Long before he left for the same position at the University of Arkansas. The Bulls will visit Heinz Field this year and again in 2011 and Pitt will play at Buffalo in 2009 and 2012.
