MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In a Backyard Brawl that featured two nationally ranked teams, No. 11 West Virginia beat No. 18 Pitt, 56-35, Wednesday night in a Big East women’s basketball game before 2,606 at the West Virginia Coliseum.
The No. 11 Mountaineers (20-3, 9-1) stretched their winning streak to nine games, as Olayinka Sanni scored a game-high 17 points and Oakland Catholic graduate Meg Bulger came off the bench to score 14 on four 3-pointers.
It was the second consecutive loss and third in four games to a ranked opponent by the Panthers (18-6, 8-3), who made only two of their first 25 attempts from the field and shot 20.3 percent (12 of 59) from the field.
Sophomore reserve guard Ashleigh Braxton led Pitt with 13 points. Pitt committed 20 turnovers and had only three assists.
