Panthers announce 2008 football schedule


Pitt announced its 2008 football schedule, which will see the Panthers play four games on national television this fall.

Pitt will play a Thursday night game at South Florida in October, at Notre Dame on NBC in November, against West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl on ABC at Heinz Field the day after Thanksgiving and the finale at Connecticut on ESPN or ESPN2.

The Panthers open at home against Bowling Green Aug. 30, followed by visits by Buffalo (Sept. 6) and Iowa (Sept. 20) before opening Big East Conference play at Syracuse (Sept. 27) and traveling to Navy (Oct. 18) and Notre Dame (Nov. 1), which will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. Pitt returns home against Louisville (Nov. 8), visits Cincinnati (Nov. 22) and plays host to West Virginia (Nov. 28). The Panthers conclude their season at Connecticut Dec. 6.

“If you look at this schedule, it fits well for our team and for our fans,” Pitt athletic director Steve Pederson said in a statement. “We have said previously that this will be an exciting home schedule. Now that we have the dates, it solidifies the fall for our fans at Heinz Field. We are also pleased that we have so many national television opportunities already in place. We have six home games that will be very special and ones that the people of Pittsburgh will not want to miss.”
