Pitt landed its second recruit from the Class of 2009 when Blairstown (N.J.) Blair Academy tailback Dion Lewis made a verbal commitment to the Panthers.
The 5-foot-7, 182-pound Lewis rushed for 979 yards and 14 touchdowns on 79 carries last season, when he split carries with a pair of Division I recruits. Lewis also had scholarship offers from Miami (Ohio) and Tulane, but he committed to Pitt shortly after visiting its South Side facilities last weekend.
“I toured the facilities and met the coaches,” said Lewis, an Albany, N.Y., native. “I got a good vibe from all of the coaches. I liked their offense and where the program is headed.”
Lakeview offensive lineman Cory King was Pitt’s first recruit from the Class of 2009.
