First quarter: Buffalo 6, Pitt 0

Buffalo’s Brandon Thermilus scored on a 1-yard run and the Bulls held a 6-0 lead over Pitt after one quarter today at Heinz Field.

Buffalo drove 73 yards on 15 plays, converting on a third-and-1 at its own 36 and a fourth-and-1 at the Pitt 18. Drew Willy completed a 9-yard pass to Brett Hamlin to set up Thermilus’ scoring run with 1:59 remaining. A.J. Principe’s kick failed.

Tommie Duhart started in place of Mick Williams, and blocked Principe’s 44-yard field-goal attempt with 11:01 remaining in the first quarter.

The Panthers’ first drive saw quarterback Bill Stull fumbled after being sacked by Dane Robinson. Left tackle Jason Pinkston recovered, but the Panthers were forced to punt.
