Pitt senior guard Shavonte Zellous was named the Big East player of the week after averaging 29.7 points in three games for the No. 19 Panthers this past week.
It marked the second time this season and sixth time in her career that Zellous won such an award, bettering the mark set by Jennifer Bruce from 1983-85. Zellous also was named to the watch lists for the Naismith Trophy and Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.
Zellous had a career-high 42 points in a loss at No. 20 Florida Saturday, shooting .542 (13 of 24) from the field, including three 3-pointers, and making 13 of 14 free throws. She is averaging 22.6 points per game, which leads the Big East and ranks ninth nationally.
