Cheaper in a dozen

April 20th, 2010

The Penguins turned a tight game into a 3-0 advantage following a fantastic save and a pair of goals within 12 seconds by Sidney Crosby and Matt Cooke in the fourth minute of the second period.

Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury stopped a backhander by Daniel Alfredsson from the lower left circle, setting up a quick rush through the neutral zone that saw Sergei Gonchar feed Chris Kunitz for a breakaway.

Kunitz was pulled down from behind, but Crosby swooped in and flipped the puck past goalie Brian Elliott to make it to 2-0 at 3:47. Before you could blink, Max Talbot intercepted a clearing attempt by Elliott and fed Cooke in the slot for a wrist shot that made it 3-0 at 3:59.
It was Crosby’s third goal and NHL-best ninth point of the playoffs.
