Ottawa has matched its third line of Chris Kelly, Chris Neil and Jarkko Ruutu against the Penguins’ first line of Sidney Crosby, Bill Guerin and Chris Kunitz — a sign that the Senators are about to stir some trouble.
Already, Kelly instigated a skirmish by punching defenseman Kris Letang in the head. Kelly, Neil and Max Talbot drew roughing penalties, giving the Penguins a power play at 6:37 of the first period.
During that man-advantage, Ruutu took a couple of runs at Crosby, but couldn’t seem to knock the Penguins’ captain off balance and instead received the brunt of the blow when they collided at the blue line.
