Senators score first

April 22nd, 2010

The Ottawa Senators struck first in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal with the Penguins, taking a 1-0 lead on Mike Fisher’s power-play deflection at 10:25 of the first period.

The Senators got the man-advantage when Mike Rupp was called for roughing at the 10-minute mark. Erik Karlsson fired a wrist shot from the right circle toward the crease, where Fisher was wedged between defenseman Brooks Orpik and Sergei Gonchar.

The puck ricocheted first off Fisher’s skate, then Gonchar’s and into the net past goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. It was Fisher’s second goal of the series.
