The Montreal Canadiens announced that defenseman Andrei Markov, rocked on a hit by Matt Cooke in the eighth minute of the first period, has sustained a lower-body injury and won’t return to Game 1.
The loss of Markov is a serious blow.
He logged 185:02 minutes of time on ice in the first round – an average of 26:26 per game, seventh in the NHL – and the Canadiens already were without one of their best blue-liners in Jaroslav Spacek (virus).
