The Penguins just announced in the press box that center Jordan Staal will not return for the third period of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinal against the Montreal Canadiens at Mellon Arena.
Staal was injured in the second period after a collision in the neutral zone, skating directly to the bench and later leaving the ice. The Penguins did not disclose the nature or severity of the injury.
Staal had never missed a shift, let alone a game during his NHL career.
One of those streaks has ended.
It will be interesting to see if the other is in jeopardy.
