Short takes with Larry Fitzgerald

Here are three subjects Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald tackled during his conference call with the Steelers media

On why the Cardinals have struggled the last couple of seasons
A: We had some personnel changes, and we have a really good quarterback here now. And we have some talented players on our team but you look at some of the other teams around the business, Kurt Warner is going to be a Hall of Famer one day. The Denver Broncos are still trying to find a replacement for John Elway. The Miami Dolphins are still trying to find a replacement for Dan Marino. This is a tough business, and losing a guy like that hurt us. But we are really confident that Kevin is going to be a special player for us but he has only been here for two months, so it is not going to happen overnight. We are confident that we can get it done, get it turned around and it has got to start this Sunday.

On developing a rapport with new Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb
A: Kevin is a lot different from what we’ve had in the past. Kurt Warner was quick. He’d get the ball in your hands faster. Kevin, coming from the West Coast system, he has taken bigger shots down the field. That plays into my hands. I like having the ball down the field, and being able to have it at its highest point, and being able to attack it. We’ve connected a couple of times, not as many as we’d like to because our record is 1-4. But the more experience we get, there will be more opportunities, and the better off we’ll be.

On Troy Polamalu saying he had visions of Fitzgerald catching a game-winning TD at the end of Super Bowl XLIII
A: He’s a consummate professional and one of the most humble men I’ve ever met in my life, in any walk of life. He’s an unbelievable player. There’s no question in my mind, if there would have been a jump ball with me and him, he probably would have come down with it. He’s just that kind of player. LaMarr Woodley made a difference on that play. He was able to get penetration and get a sack on our quarterback. That’s why he’s one of the premier guys in the league at his position. If you pull a name out of a hat on that defense: James Farrior, anybody, those guys are unbelievable. Not only are they an unbelievable talent, they play so well and hard for each other. When they make a play, they go to one another and congratulate one another. Brett Keisel has been playing great. All around, it’s going to be a dogfight for us to put something together. We are confident we can do it.

  1. Z Man says:

The best thing about Mark Kabol is that he isn’t named John Harris.

  2. Rick says:

Wow, either no one is caring right now or I just got here early. :D

Could be a tough game for us, once again, we could stub our collective toes badly. That said…

Interesting, Mendenhall “Player of the Week” this week, Ben was last week. So if things progress as they have so far…
Ben will probably play his normal way this time, good to very good game. Mendy will probably fumble or something. Look for someone else for Player of the Week, like Sanders. Ha ha, just big guess.
Ward will get past 12,000 yards to join that club.
Heywood will play more what with Hoke and Hamp both out, despite McClendon starting. And he just might have a good game.
We will get our first INT by a DB, wouldn’t be surprised if it was McFadden who does it.

  3. Mr. Cynical says:

    Fitzgerald is a class act!

  4. Mr. Cynical says:

Qutoe of the day by Ken Wisenhunt!

Whisenhunt on what the Cardinals will do different against the Steelers in the teams’ first meeting since Super Bowl XLIII: “Obviously if we get down to the 1-yard line, we’re not going to throw it to James Harrison.”

  5. Mr. Cynical says:

    Lol! I misspelled quote!

  6. JDub81 says:

Don’t believe his nice guy act….he’s just trying to soften the Steelers up. Can’t afford to let him have a big day.

  7. David says:

would’nt look past this game either, the Cards are a better team then thier record would indicate, much like us, so to say we should win this game is to say just give us the win and not even play the game, save money on air fare, and the bodies from unnecessary roughness, but we all know the game must be played, so heres to this game in the dessert, and Ken is right, they won’t be throwing to James Harrison……. tho Ben might if we have a so-so game….

  8. Scott P says:

I wish the Steelers still had Whisenhunt and Grimm coaching the offense. Arians is a complete tool.

  9. Mr.Cynical says:

Scott P. I totally agree with you. Wiz was awesome! Now we have BA –I just puked in my mouth!
