50 shades of Gitmo

When a congressman was touring the Guantanamo detention center over the weekend, he discovered something odd …

Tops on the reading list of high-security detainees?  50 Shades of Grey.

“Rather than the Koran, the book that is requested most by the (Camp 7 detainees) is ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’ They’ve read the entire series,” Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia said in an account first published by the Huffington Post and confirmed to Reuters by Moran’s spokeswoman.

If I have to explain to you what 50 Shades is all about, good for you! At least someone has escaped its handcuffs of insipid prose, absurd plot (that the Twilight series has to answer for) and the ridiculous realization that it (and its sequels) became instant bestsellers.

Unfortunate its fans include men considered so dangerous that they remain on an island off the coast of the United States.

Meanwhile, emergency responders in London have noticed an alarming rise in calls involving handcuffs, British media report.
