Turns out drinking too much can change your brain and, ah, make you stupid, preliminary findings reveal.
“The symptoms of alcohol hangover are not just physiological – they affect cognitive functioning,” Dr. Lauren Owen, a postdoctoral research fellow at Keele University’s school of psychology, tells the Daily Telegraph.
In other words, Owen says, if you’re hungover, it’s probably harder to do simple stuff such as arithmetic. (Like not being able to add up how many drinks you had the night before.)
But there is good news. …
The older you are, the less likely you are to have a hangover.
Dr. Richard Stephens, a senior psychology lecturer at Keele, said: “People tend to think that hangovers get worse with age, but we are finding that people generally suffer fewer hangovers.”
