William Cantelo, a 19th century inventor announced to his sons that he had perfected the machine-gun, then left his house never to return. What happened to him?

Was he related to, or could he have become, Sir Hiram Stevens Maxim, the man credited with making the first fully-automatic machine gun?

The photo shows Hiram Maxim in 1915, left, and William Cantelo. When Cantelo’s sons saw a photo of Maxim in a newspaper, they said it was the image of their missing father.
