Aussie researchers have discovered a way to help prevent hangovers from drinking too much beer, The Australian reports.
Think of it as the sports-drink cure — a mashup of Gatorade with boozy Bud. It’s not as terrible as it sounds.
Griffith University’s Health Institute nutritionists increased electrolyte levels in two beers — one regular and one light — and gave them to people who had just gotten all sweaty from exercise.
When you’re dehydrated, you’re more likely to get drunk, and a hangover. In the heat of Australia it’s easy to get dehydrated, especially if you do a job that requires heavy-lifting. And, after all, Australians are not unknown to kick back with a cold one at the end of a long, hard day.
The study showed the new and improved light beer was a third more effective at hydrating a drinker than normal beer. The new beer did lose a bit of its alcohol content (4.8% down to 2.3%), but reportedly the ale was just as tasty.
