Pope poses for selfie

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

popefrancisIn the beginning was the tweet. And the tweet was good.

Pope Francis, the man who loves to break traditions almost as much as he loves God, has taken a “selfie” with some Italian kids making a pilgrimage last week from Milan to the Vatican. The kids wasted no time, ¬†tweeting it to the world.

“You are bearers of hope. You, in fact, live in the present, but are looking at the future. …¬†Make the future with beauty, with goodness and truth,” Francis told them.

Do you love this pope or what? Not only has he brought a breath of fresh air to the church, he has rehabilitated the “selfie” — the ubiquitous cellphone portrait taken at arm’s length.

“Selfie” became a part of everyday language about the same time Geraldo Rivera gave it a bad rep by burning his near nakedness onto our corneas.
