Pope poses for selfie

popefrancisIn the beginning was the tweet. And the tweet was good.

Pope Francis, the man who loves to break traditions almost as much as he loves God, has taken a “selfie” with some Italian kids making a pilgrimage last week from Milan to the Vatican. The kids wasted no time,  tweeting it to the world.

“You are bearers of hope. You, in fact, live in the present, but are looking at the future. … Make the future with beauty, with goodness and truth,” Francis told them.

Do you love this pope or what? Not only has he brought a breath of fresh air to the church, he has rehabilitated the “selfie” — the ubiquitous cellphone portrait taken at arm’s length.

“Selfie” became a part of everyday language about the same time Geraldo Rivera gave it a bad rep by burning his near nakedness onto our corneas.
