A self-proclaimed “old-fashioned, redneck” father whose daughter did not adhere to his “modesty guidelines” gave her an inventive lesson on skimpy clothing last month.
Scott Mackintosh, a father of seven from Utah, was about to take his family out to dinner when he had a light-bulb moment.
”I heard my wife ask our daughter if she would please change into some longer shorts before leaving,” Mackintosh writes on his family’s blog. ” ‘She said “NO!’ Instead of turning her response and disrespectful attitude into a major battle, I decided to make a ‘small’ statement on how her short-shorts maybe aren’t as ‘cute’ as she thinks!”
Mackintosh grabbed scissors, cut off a pair of his jeans, put them on and completed the ensemble with a Fathers Day present — a Best. Dad. Ever. T-shirt.
He got stares and laughs from patrons at the restaurant and a “disgusted look” from his teen daughter. But his family snapped pictures and posted them on social media.
Mackintosh tormented his daughter as long as possible that evening, taking everybody miniature golfing and then to an ice cream parlor.
His daughter finally caved outside the ice cream shop. She refused to be seen with her dad in short-shorts, stayed in the car and lost out on a milk shake.
“I was absolutely going for shock value and a little bit of embarrassment,” Mackintosh tells NBC.
