It’s Americans like Army Sgt. Jonathan Speth who make it less so.
A “mortar man” attached to the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Speth keeps flares in the skies of Southern Afghanistan. Illumination rounds deter the Taliban by announcing U.S. troops are in the area, and make it easier for U.S. forces to track and hit enemy targets.
