You have the permission of the CEO of Levi Strauss not to stick your jeans in sudsy water.
Chip Burgh hasn’t washed the jeans he’s wearing for a year.
“I know that sounds totally disgusting,” he admits.
Burgh says not washing your jeans will save water — to help the environment — and preserve your jeans. Spot cleaning with a sponge and “air cleaning” are acceptable, Burgh tells Fortune’s Brainstorm Green conference. (Fast forward to the 9-minute mark to hear his household hint.)
The Levi executive has yet to get a “skin disease” from his unwashed attire, he boasts. For those of us who fly commercial, though, a washing machine is probably a good idea.
