Map: What states are boozing it up?

whodrinkswhatbystateWhat’s in the water in New Hampshire? Booze.

According to the Beer Institute, 40.8 gallons of alcohol per person are bought each year. But as the Washington Post’s Wonkblog points out, the¬†New Hampshire Liquor Commission says about half the buyers come from out of state to take advantage of lower taxes.

So who’s drinking what where?

The biggest beer drinkers live in North Dakota.

The wine connoisseurs are in D.C.

New Hampshire (No. 1),  Delaware (No. 2), D.C. (No. 3) and North Dakota (No. 4) prefer a swig of the hard stuff.
